As the studies show, the support of your close friends and relatives increases your chances for success and overall happiness. But what if your field of interest is something they don’t completely understand?

We as people have struggled with that dilemma since our early years in life. It might start with your hobbies - be it something creative or technical. When it comes to not being accepted by the people we cherish and trust the most, our own passion and motivation for whatever we are doing decreases significantly. So, the question is: how do I make people accept me for my lifestyle choices?

I, as a trader, struggled to be taken seriously by my friends and parents. I would be lying if I told you that it didn’t affect my self-confidence. Peer pressure is not always about something people want you to do, but sometimes it can be about people who want to hold you back, especially if they come from a different background. Are your parents doctors? Well, chances are high they have the same expectations in the future for you, because for them, this path worked perfectly. So why bother trying to take risks? Are your friends artists? They probably won’t appreciate your passion for finance since this sphere doesn’t interest them so much.

A few years later, I’ve found a perfect balance between my life as a Forex trader and support from my friends and family. That’s why I think I can share some advice with you.

  1. Find common ground

Forex is not only about finance. The best thing about it is that it crosses so many spheres: economy, politics, technology, math, even art (NFTs are a perfect example). Forex is a complex science that demands you to be well-rounded in pretty much everything, so why not use it to your own advantage?

  1. Show your friends and family that Forex is effective.

When it comes to strict parents who struggle with the concept of earning money out of the office, just by sitting in front of your computer, it can be extremely difficult to change their minds. Instead of trying to explain to them all the pros of self-employment and remote work, try showing them that others could succeed in this field. Traders who worked their way to the top, business owners who have Forex as their side job - it might not work right away, but it will definitely warm them up to the idea of you becoming successful one day too. Even if that happens through means that are not exactly familiar to them.

  1. Show them how it works.

If your friends and family are on board with the idea of learning something new, you could introduce them to the basics of Forex. A step-by-step explanation works like a charm! People often tend to dislike and reject something they don’t understand, so why not explain how that works to them? Keep your explanations brief and simple - no need to explain all the details. A simple “That’s how I started trading!” can go a long way. Besides, doing something together brings people together like nothing else. Who knows, maybe you will get a new Forex buddy out of it!

  1. Cut them off

This way is the last resort on your way to finding your inner peace. Friends and family are extremely important, but are those people good for you if they don’t share your passion and make you live a life you never wanted? Having to oppress your true passions and aspirations is never good for you, especially when it comes to your mental health. This way of resolving the conflict is radical, but in some cases, it’s the only thing you can do to protect your dreams.

In the end, even without the support of your loved ones, you can make it in the Forex industry, but it’s so much better to walk this path when you have people who believe in you. Give it a little try, and you might find that people around you truly support you. It just takes a little bit of work from both sides.
